It is a stunning traditionally used lime-based plaster surface which is also waterproof got its origin from Morocco, years ago. Techniques To Use Tadelakt
As mentioned earlier, to get the traditional application, the plaster should be polished with a river stone and oleic acid. Since this plaster contains a mixture of lime plaster, marble, and natural soap which reacts with lime plaster and forms lime soaps, also known as calcium soaps. This calcium soap is hard and insoluble in water.
- In water, a mixture of powdered plaster is made and kept for almost 12 to 15 hours before any kind of pigment is added.
- This paste is then applied using the wooden float. A thick coating is applied and smoothed out with wooden float only.
- Before settling of the plaster, it is compressed using a smooth, flat, hard stone. Using a plastic trowel, final polishing is done.
- Manual labour is required to polish the plaster with the help of abrasives and stones. These stones should be quite hard as compared to the plaster to provide a smooth and shiny finish.
- Finally, soap of olive oil is used for sealing the plaster.
For long-term use, this plaster needs a regular interval of re-sealing of the surface with the olive oil soap, possibly in a two to three years of gap.
